Lee, this is a very good article. Consider this point: Is not Hezbollah a "faith-based" group? Using religion to to support a number of services within the Shiite Islamic community of Southern Lebanon that would usually consider the province of the national government? In that fashion is Hezbollah or "Party of God." the same in some fashion to the Southern Baptists as a political movement? Now you know it why it was conservatives that used to be the one's that pined for separartion of church and state.
Thanks, Sean. I do think that Christians have a role in changing culture and society, but that comes through the power of the Holy Spirit as people's hearts and minds are changed. That can't be accomplished through politics. The Great Commission had nothing to do with political power. I tend to believe Christ when he said his kingdom wasn't of this world.
Agreed.
About the Pledge of Allegiance, Doesnt the Bible say that we are not to 'Swear an Oath?'
Some consider the Pledge a form of Idolatry. (Worship of an image)
The phrase 'under God' was added decades after the Pledge was in use.
Prior to that time, the flag salute was the same as the NAZI salute (arm outstreched)
And the most vocal opponents of children being forced to say it were churches and The Old Right.
The Pledge was invented by a Minister who was booted fron his church by paritioners for teaching that
'Jesus was a Socialist' People should know this!
In the Bible (Book of Revelation) It talks about people being forced to worship the 'Image of the beast'
If the beast referred to is a Nation isnt it possible that the image would be a flag or symbol of that Nation?
As for which nation is or could be the beast or a beast is for another discussion.
Loyalty oaths are very popular with totalitarian regimes. I wonder what our Founding fathers would have to say about this and
about all the neocons and ultranationalists howling for such oaths to be made manditory.
