As if "conservatives" didn't already have enough anti-American institutions to boycott, now there's Star Wars: Episode III--Revenge of the Sith. To paraphrase the Bard, "The neocons doth protest too much, methinks."
Your use of quotations around "conservatives" make a good point. It is actually Republicans who are perceived to be conservatives that are the most common source of objection to Anakin's line.
By illustrating the historical dangers of the path to tyranny, he is actually promoting an American conservative view. Vader's "If you're not with me" statement supports this principle.
This statement shows that Vader put himself above the Republic he had committed to serve as a Jedi. We saw further of evidence when he appealed to Padme (and in "The Empire Strikes Back", Luke Skywalker) to join him in another coup conspiracy.
If Lucas is making a jab at anything, it is liberal usurpations of power. For this, conservatives should be grateful, and many of us are.

Thank you.
