Thoughts on the Election from Doug Phillips

Doug Phillips assures us that there are some things this election won't change:

1. God is still on the throne.
   
2. The Scriptures are still the only rule of action for Christians.
   
3. The duty of believers at the ballot box is the same today as it has always been. We may only select leaders who meet the Scriptural requirements for civil magistrate. Leaders need not be perfect, but they must be qualified.
   
4. The obedient response of the elect of God to the Lord Jesus Christ and His law-word, not Muslim extremists, political activists, or the results of presidential elections, is the key to national blessing.
   
5. The results of the presidential election, regardless of who wins, will work together for the good of the elect of God.
   

Doug also reminds us of our responsibility as believers:

American Christians have a biblical duty to pray for, love, and honor the chief magistrate in our nation. We also have a duty to help our President by holding him accountable to his oath of office to uphold the Constitution, and his non-optional, biblical duties to uphold and enforce the moral law of God.

"And we know that all things work together for good to those who love God, to those who are called according to His purpose. For whom He foreknew, He also predestined to be conformed to the image of His Son, that He might be the firstborn among many brethren" (Romans 8:28-29).

The Great Deception

I can't read minds and I certainly don't pretend to know what lies in a man's heart. However, I think I have seen enough to know that George W. Bush is a fraud. He knows how to talk the talk, but when it comes to walking the walk he's just stumbling around aimlessly in the dark. What's worse, he has convinced countless gullible Christians to follow his lead.

The only feasible explanation is that many have fallen into a form of idolatry. When a sinful, fallible human being can do no wrong in the eyes of believers, something has gone awry.

As many of you already know, Bush was on Good Morning America on Tuesday, Oct. 26. Singing the praises of Islam, he completely undermined the gospel by denying that Jesus Christ is the only way to salvation. During the interview with the president, GMA co-host Charles Gibson asked, "Do we all worship the same God, Christian and Muslim?" Bush replied, "I think we do. We have different routes of getting to the Almighty." Gibson then queried, "Do Christians and non-Christians and Muslims go to heaven in your mind?" Again, the president, ignoring scripture, stated unequivocally, "Yes, they do. We have different routes of getting there."

Recalling the actions of the Apostle Peter on the eve of Christ's crucifixion, one could have chalked up Bush's denial of the truth to his fear of personal injury or electoral repercussions. But this was by no means an isolated incident. Bush has been kowtowing to Islam for over three years.

The only thing I can't understand is the willingness of Christians to go along with this great deception. It's one thing to agree with the president's politics; it's quite another to hold him up as a Christ-like example. A man of faith? Perhaps, but not a faith I'm familiar with.
